Affiliate Summit East - Affiliate Marketers and Twitter
I’m just getting back from the Affiliate Summit East in Boston and as usual, I’m worn out!
Even though the East Affiliate Summit is smaller then the West one, which is usually held in Vegas, there was plenty to see and do.
I would have to say though, that Meet and Greet on the first day could be improved upon (at least this one). While I realize this is supposed to be a smaller venue for exhibitors to display their offerings, it was packed into a smaller room and the merchants had to yell to be heard. Not a very pleasant experience for anyone, but again, there was a lot to see and plenty of merchants and networks to meet.
The Exhibit Hall booths had the usual influence of Networks. That must be a very profitable business to be in as there are plenty of new networks appearing every year. Again, I have to have one complaint and that is that there are more networks then there are interesting merchants that have products to market.Â
I was helping staff the Affiliate Classroom booth and I’m always happy to be there as something that is NOT a Network. You can see the look of refreshment on people’s eyes when they look at the banner and ask “so are you a Network?” NOPE! As the company offering the best Affiliate Marketing training in the industry, the Affiliate Classroom is a welcome site to most attendees. In my humble opinion, that is.
The ShareASale party was a blast this year. It was held on a huge yacht which remained docked so people could come and go as they wanted. I thought that was an excellent idea! You got the feeling that you were on a boat, without the feeling of being “trapped” out in the water if something went wrong. Of course, nothing went wrong and a grand time was held by all.Â
LinkShare also held a party. And, while smaller, it was offered at a nearby restaurant around the corner, with the added fun of arriving at the party in a water taxi. I love boats, so this was really fun for me.
There was a lot of interest/information/controversiary about the PMA at this event, so that kept everything exciting. I’m sure every thing will get worked out in that area as it is something that is needed in the Afflliate Industry so affiliates and managers will have someone to represent them as a whole when issues arrive (like the recently approved New York Tax Law, for instance.) Keep on top of that law because it could have an effect on other states that get greedy – like New York did!
Well, I guess I won’t talk you ear off, as there will be plenty to read about all of this in the coming days and weeks. But I wanted to chime in to let you know how it went – and also that attending these events is a GREAT way to Network and make friends in the Affiliate Marketing area. I meet new people at each event, and there’s just nothing like meeting someone face to face and having a nice long chat over lunch or drinks.
Oh, and one thing a few of the upper level Internet marketers recommended is that you get on Twitter and start to “Tweet.” Apparently, Twitter is an excellent way to keep up to date on what’s happening everywhere. I’m just not ready to give up my life to another gadget. I did notice though that a lot of people couldn’t even get through a one hour meeting without checking in to see what other people were talking about.
You can check it out yourself if you want – just sign up and follow a few people for a while. The information is out there, all you have to do is look for it.
