I just have to vent, and I figured my blog was the best place to do it, so here goes! About 6 months ago I went to an Internet Marketing Conference. And, even though I told myself I WAS NOT going to buy anything, I got sucked in by some smart talking Internet Marketer who promised to help me become successful in Internet Marketing. He also promised access to all of his products – and he had a LOT of REALLY GOOD products.
So, since I had an eBook which I had been trying to get off the ground for over a year, I paid the steep price of $2,997.00 (yep, almost $3,000!), but you know how they get you all excited at these conferences!
Then, I had to ask for the freebies I was promised – and it turned out that I had ACCESS TO SELL THEM! I didn’t really get any of the products unless I bought them, but I could sell all I wanted. No big deal, I wanted the coaching more than the products, so I moved on.
I sent this Internet Marketing Guru, who I had paid more than I have ever paid anyone in my life, my web-page address and sales letter to review. He said it all looked good, and we went on to my Affiliate Program.
Then I was told that my Affiliate Commission Payout was too low, it should be 60% or higher, so, because I wanted to get a lot of JV’s I raised it to 60%. I also raised my price to make it attractive to possible JV partners.
Oh, at the point that I asked a Marketing Question that would have actually taken some work on the part of the Internet Marketing Coach, and I was immediately sent to his Technical person – for Marketing help?!
So, we went to the mailing. Part of my coaching was that this person would send an eMail out to his list. Which he did – and even though his list didn’t do really great – I didn’t think he should have made the 60% Affiliate Commission on top of what I had already paid him.
What’s up with paying for Coaching, and then paying the Coach an Affiliate Commission? I still don’t understand that one.
So, all that’s done now, and I wanted to move on to another product, since I really almost had this one done before I signed up, and his list only made me about $300.00. THEN, I was told that the original “deal” was that he would help me market one ebook, and send it to his list – oh, and of course, I could sell his products, but now his part of the coaching was done. WHAT?
I paid $3,000 for him to tell me that 1) my web site was fine, 2) my sales letter was fine, and 3) Raise your Affiliate Payout so I can make more money!
I’m really put out. Right now I have vowed NEVER to pay the high price that these Internet Marketers offer as the “deal fo the day” at seminars. In my opinion, their Coaching is not worth the price! They are too busy to really help people – they do the coaching to find new products and earn easy affiliate commissions from newbie Niche Marketers. These people are looking for a total Newbie to take advantage of – and that’s why they do their entire sales pitch on making LOTS of money, in very little time - and it can only happen with their help.
Niche Marketers listen up – UNLESS your niche is Internet Marketing, these people’s lists (no matter how Big a Big Wig Internet Marketer they are) will be worthless to you as their subscribers are not your target customers.
I have turned over a new leaf. From now on, I only join reasonably priced Coaching Memberships; and then I only join if I can get in and see everything for a reasonable price. I have joined two now, both from the same company, and I’ve learned more from their training and Forums than I ever did from any Big Wig Internet Marketer!
Here are the two I recommend:
- Affiliate Classroom – Step-By-Step program that will help you get started in any Niche. Personal coaching through the Forum. Try it for 14 days for just $1.00.
- Internet Insiders Club – access to research done by 15+ people every single month on all the profitable niches they find. Get started for just $9.97?”
I wish you would comment on this post if you’ve had any success with getting a Big Wig Internet Marketer to help you (after you hand over the cash). I don’t want to name names, and don’t want you to either, but it would be nice to have at least one success story. This was my third and most expensive attempt, but each ended about the same (time goes by, they’re busy, then time’s up!)
